Fringe in Full Swing

Just another week of typical Fringe Festival fare.

The annual showcase for edgy, often off-the-wall theater continues through Aug. 24 at several downtown Manhattan venues. This year's New York International Fringe Festival features nearly 200 productions, plus several child-friendly events. (Go to http://www.fringenyc.org/ for schedules and show information.)

Here's a look at some of the Fringy offerings seen this week:

'Tupperware' flips our lids

Dixie Longate is definitely not your grandma's Tupperware Lady.
In the hilarious "Dixie's Tupperware Party," a one-person show at the Fringe, a potty-mouthed, whisky-swilling saleswoman conducts a Tupperware party for the audience.

While talking about her slutty kids and 18 marriages, Dixie pushes traditional uses for the plastic containers, but also demonstrates some inventive new ones that are mostly unprintable in a family newspaper.

The Daily News invited Tupperware consultant Marci Havelin to critique the play. Her verdict? A big thumbs-up for the show - and for Dixie's often-salacious spiel. "The show is very funny," said Havelin. "The way he presented [the products] and explained the uses for them, whether it was a true use for food or a sexual use, was hysterical."
